1961: Cannabis is added to the list of internationally controlled drugs.

The UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs is a treaty to prohibit production and supply of narcotics. Under this treaty cannabis was added to the list of internationally controlled drugs in 1961.

In fact, regulations on the cannabis plant were embedded in the text of the treaty, making it impossible to deregulate them through the normal scheduling process.
