Purple Cannabis Plants

Why do cannabis plants sometimes turn purple? The color of cannabis varieties, such as Purple Haze, Purple Punch and French Macaron (depicted in the photo above) is caused by natural pigments in the plant called anthocyanins. As it gets colder in the fall, these dyes will turn purple. This color can appear in the flowers as well as in the leaves and branches.

Incidentally, Purple Haze and Purple Punch are not always purple. If cannabis plants are exposed to temperatures higher than 10 degrees in the last weeks of flowering, there is little chance of them turning purple.
